In 2000 Chris Rock's jokes and performance from Bigger and Blacker  comedy album brought him a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Comedy Album. Also in 2000, Chris Rock received the American Comedy Awards for Funniest Male Performer in a TV Special. The award was for Chris Rock's HBO special Bring the Pain.

In 1984, Chris Rock began performing stand up comedy shows in a chain of comedy clubs in New York City, called Catch a Rising Star. During one of his comedy shows, Chris Rock was dicovered at New York's Comedy Strip by Eddie Murphy.
